Virtual Minecraft Therapy Groups for Neurodivergent Children & Tweens

Maryland | dc | virginia

What even is going on in the world right now?

That’s what we’re all thinking. Even our kids. We are bombarded with images, audio and messages about how our world is unsafe, unjust and uncaring.

For our kids, especially our autistic and/or ADHD’r kids and tweens, they need - and deserve - a safe place to ask questions, learn more and get connected

without feeling shamed or judged.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT GROUPS AT PTC?

Minecraft Groups for neurodivergent elementary and middle schoolers at Playful Therapy Connections are a place where children and tweens can connect in the ways that are most natural for them, with peers who have similar interests and overlapping neurotypes.

We do not ‘teach social skills’. Instead, we honor each child’s way of being by offering a supportive space where they can be themselves and explore the ways in which they want to show up in the world. Instead of providing a set curriculum intended to teach kids how to mask or “pass as neurotypical”, group members join a Minecraft realm where they can show up as the experts in their own stories.

Our neurodivergent licensed therapists and clinical interns focus on building up your child’s strengths and do not operate from a deficit-based model.

All while playing Minecraft, PTC’s groups will provide opportunities for your Autistic / ADHD’r / AuDHDr’ / anxious / depressed child to:

connect

Groups offer a space for positive, affirming & safe peer connections.

Exploring your emotional world alongside peers who get it (and won’t laugh at your struggles or questions) is a powerful tool for healing & change.

learn

Effectively absorb & practice new skills through play, stories & conversation.

Small group content is customized to match the learning styles of group members & to meet your goals.

cope

Groups allow for real time expression of emotions, problem-solving & implementation of coping strategies to build resiliency & positive communication skills.

Ongoing parent/caregiver updates allow you to support your child in using the coping strategies practiced in group at home.
